大野泽是“西狩获麟”之地。据《春秋》鲁哀公十四年(公元前481年)：“春，西狩获麟。”《左传》详解为：“十四年春，西狩于大野。叔孙氏之车子鉏商获麟，以为不祥，以赐虞人。仲尼观之，曰：‘麟也！’然后取之。”

  巨野古属大野。麒麟，是古代传说中的祥瑞神兽，古书说它“音中钟吕，行中规矩，游必择地，祥而后处。不履生虫，不践生草，不群居，不侣行，不罹罗网。”《麒麟传说》在巨野已经流传了千百年，可以说妇孺皆知，现在已经由传说衍化成为一种吉祥文化。
